- Will home owners insurance cover water damage as a result of a storm or hurricane? A: No. Hurricane coverage has been eliminated from standard home owner's policies.
- Who qualifies for flood insurance? A: Homes, condos, apartments, renters and business structures are eligible.
- Will flood insurance cover sewer backup? A: In most cases, the backup and the damage must be related to flooding and all general conditions of flooding are met in your local area.
- What is covered and not covered by flood insurance? A: Direct physical losses caused by floods are covered. Losses resulting from flood-related erosion are also covered if caused by abnormally high waves or currents of water activity, severe storm,flash flood or abnormal tidal surge.
- Does my NFIP Policy cover mold or mildew? A: Damage from mold or mildew arising from the after effects of a covered flood is covered. However, each case is evaluated on an individual basis.
To insure your home against floods you will have to purchase additional flood insurance.
Your basement structure, essential equipment and other basic items normally located in a basement are covered; however personal belongings stored in a basement, such as furniture, are not covered.
Mold or mildew conditions that existed prior to the flood event are not covered. After a flood, the policy holder is responsible for taking reasonable
and appropriate mitigation actions to reduce or eliminate mold or mildew
